Southeast High School freshman Andrew Thames recently earned his first tournament victory in the Northern Ohio PGA Futures Tour event at the Legends of Massillon.

ANDREW THAMES

Thames topped Nathan Kinter, also a freshman for the Pirates, by one stroke in the nine-hole tournament as Thames fired a 38 and Kinter a 39.

Leah Williams (Ravenna) finished sixth in the girls 12-16 with a 54.

The Legends of Massillon also hosted the Performance Tour event for juniors.

Local golfers at the event included:

   • Jacob Ranieri (Mogadore), 71 in the boys 16-19 division

   • Brody Sanford (Streetsboro), 82 in the boys 16-19 division

VANDAMME EARNS VICTORY

Andrew VanDamme, a freshman for Kent Roosevelt, tied Elijah Stewart to win the Boys 14-15 age division at the NOPGA Next Level Tour at Fox Den.

VanDamme fired rounds of 70-72 to win his age division at the Stow golf course.

PERFORMANCE TOUR AT TANGLEWOOD

In addition to his strong performance at The Legends of Massillon, Rainieri also recently took second place, with a round of 71, just missing the victory by one stroke at the Performance Tour event at Tanglewood Golf Club.

Rainieri competed in the boys 16-19 age division.

Also playing in the same age division was Brady Allenick of Aurora (13th place with a score of 76); Dylan Lancaster of Aurora (17th place, 77); Brody Sanford of Streetsboro (30th place, 82); Kellen Walter of Aurora 49th place, 94); Evan Reger of Streetsboro (50th place, 95); and Drew Just of Rootstown (54th place, 102).

Finally, Andrew VanDamme finished in seventh place in the boys 14-15 age division, carding a 78.

87TH GOOD PARK JUNIOR TOURNAMENT

The Good Park Junior Tournament has welcomed many outstanding junior golfers throughout the more than 80 years of the tournament.

Adding her name to the Champions that have played the three-day tournament is Sammy Morgan of Berlin, a junior for the Southeast Pirates this August.

Sammy fired rounds of 76-77 for a 149 total that topped her nearest competitor by nine strokes.

Also in the championship flight with Morgan was Emily Morrison, also a member of the Lady Pirates, finishing in fourth place with a two-round total of 181.

The first 18-holes at Good Park is a qualifying round, placing juniors in flights.

Morgan’s brother, James Morgan, a recent graduate of Southeast who earned player of the year honors three-times across two leagues, finished in second place in the boys championship flight carding rounds of 78-72 for a 150, just three strokes shy of the champion, Shane Bates of Uniontown.
