The Southeast Pirates hosted the second of two Pirates Play Golf clinics for youth golfers at Southeast Elementary School.

This season, the final night included awards for junior golfers as they competed in challenges, including a mini-masters tournament drive, chip and putt contest.

Golfers not only learn skills, but they also learn the importance of golf etiquette as demonstrated by the champions of the mini-masters, Marshall Bird and runner-up Caleb Zacyk.

The two competed in all of the skills, with Bird earning the ultimate championship.

The two stood next to each other at the start, competed toward the championship in a chip-off after finishing the regular competition in a tie and then shook hands with each other prior to the award ceremony where Bird was awarded a green jacket and Zacyk a medal.

Additional medal winners included:

   • Driving: Francisco Cordero Aceredor, champion and Colton Bixler, runner-up; Putting—Ryan Jordan, champion and Adalyn John, runner-up

   • Chipping: Kelsey Diehl, champion and Marshall Bird, runner-up.

The group gathered for a group picture at the end of the session with their instructors, including Cindy Fesemyer, Southeast Pirates girls golf coach and Mike Jenior, boys golf coach. The Pirates Play Golf competitors from both sessions will travel to the Olde Dutch Mill golf course later this spring to try their skills and register for summer clinics and junior league.

As the showcase prepares to welcome girls to the 25th year of the event, Lynne Plaisance, Northern Ohio PGA Director of Operations and Executive Director of Ohio Girls Golf Foundation invites past competitors and champions to help celebrate the anniversary with a special project.

Registration is open for the 25th annual OGGF Showcase at Avon Oaks Country Club scheduled for July 20th to start the girls golf season.

Individuals entry fee is $75 and team entry fee is $375
