Mark your calendars for the annual Portage County Amateurs, four tournaments that welcome golfers from preschool to seniors at Portage County area golf courses.

 

 

The 94th Portage County Amateur tees off at Windmill Lakes on July 27 plays the final round at Raccoon Hill on July 28.

Golfers are only divided into a Portage County Division and an Open Division (for golfers residing outside of Portage County.) All play the championship tees at both courses.

A Women’s Division is also competed.

Deadline for registration is $90 by July 10 or $100 by July 23.

 

 

The 54th Portage County Senior Amateur begins two rounds of play at Raccoon Hill on Aug. 24 and concludes at Windmill Lakes on Aug. 25.

Golfers compete by age divisions: age 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus for the men. Women may also compete in their own division.

Registration is $90 by Aug. 7 and $100 by Aug. 21.

The junior events include the 18th Matt Mishler Portage County Junior Amateur and the 10th Portage County Kids Amateur.

 

 

The 10th Portage County Kids Amateur competes on July 21 at Sunny Hill Golf Course on their popular middle nine. Golfers age three and under play four holes ($15), grades 4 and 5 play 6 holes ($20 and grades 8-9 and grades 6-7 play nine holes ($20). Depending on their ability, junior golfers are welcome to play up a division. Deadline is July 18.

 

 

The 18th Matt Mishler Junior Amateur, now in its 18th season, competes at Windmill Lakes on July 22 and Sunny Hill on July 23.

There are three separate age divisions for boys and girls, 16-19, 13-15 and 12 and under. Ages 12 and under play nine holes each day ($45) and ages 13-19 play 18 holes each day ($60).

Registration deadline for the Junior Amateur is July 19.

REMEMBERING THE CHAMPIONS

As the Portage County Amateurs are launched for this season, this column will remember the champions from previous seasons.

This week, the Junior Amateur champions 12 and under for both boys and girls.

TOURNAMENTS

The Women’s Ohio State Golf Association has set their schedule for 2024 and includes the 48th Ohio Junior Girls Championship set for Marion Country Club in Marion July 15-16.

Additional tournaments include the 101st Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship at Belmont Hills Country Club in Clairsville July 22-25, the 8th Women’s Mid-Amateur at Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville July 22-25 and the 26th Women’s Senior Championship at Prestwick Country Club in Uniontown with the date to be determined.

 

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF COACHES

The Ohio Girls Golf Foundation High School Girls Showcase is set to tee off on July 29 at Avon Oaks Country Club in Avon.

Registration will open soon.

 

LOOKING TO PLAY GOLF

Severa golf courses have been filled with golfers as they remain open all winter and are welcoming players during this great golfing weather.

Call Raccoon Hill Golf Club in Kent, Fairways at Twin Lakes in Kent and Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton for a tee time to enjoy a day of golf this winter.
