Golfers from both Aurora and Kent have played at Tanglewood Golf Club in Chagrin Falls recently, competing in the Suburban League final tournament of four and the OHSAA D1 Girls District event.
The course is owned by Matt Creech, a member of the Northern Ohio PGA and also the owner of The Golf Dome in Bainbridge.
Both tournaments under the watchful eye of Creech and the tournament’s director, Rob Eckenrode, Nordonia Athletic Director, ran like clockwork as champions in the Suburban league and golfers advancing to state all turned in their final rounds at both events.
Creech, for the first time in the 79-year history of the Northern Ohio PGA Section, will be awarded the Executive of the Year award at the annual presentations in November.
The Board of Directors recognized Creech’s vision, commitment, innovation, insight and overall contributions to the section and the game.
His career has spanned nearly 30 years and touched so many lives and embarked on so many projects that he deserves this award the NOPGA offered in their release.
His career has spanned many courses beginning at Mayfield Country Club and adding Sand Ridge where he served 18 years as Director of Golf. He eventually became general manager of both clubs attracting 320 new members.
Matt has also served the NOPGA including two terms on the Board of Director, two years each as section secretary, vice president and president. Currently he is the honorary president.
A member of many committees including Growth of the Game, Tournament and Hall of Fame.
Creech purchased the Golf Dome training facility in Chagrin Falls and then became the owner operator of Tangelwood Golf and Grounds.
The Dome is one of the top teaching and junior golf sites offering more than 3,000 lessons a year and several seven-day clinics. Creech and his staff serve more than 1,000 junior players in the largest program in Northern Ohio.
Congratulations on the outstanding recognition.
Steve Parker, alumnus of Kent State varsity men’s golf team, will receive the Professional Development Award.
Mark Wise, Ravenna native and also former Kent State varsity men’s golf team member, receiving Sales Rep of the Year – Hard Goods.
Joe Lombardi, also a alumnus of the Kent State men’s golf team, earning Sales Re of the Year – Soft Goods.
