Geddes earns POY honors to spotlight G-Men, Vikes on All-MVAC teams

Garfield junior Eric Geddes was named the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Division Player of the Year after a superb 2023 season.

Geddes’ final numbers included a .406 batting average, 41 hits, 15 doubles, 34 RBI, 18 stolen bases and 29 runs scored.

On the mound, Geddes was equally special.

The right-hander was 9-1, with an earned-run average of 1.51. He struck out 96 in 65 innings of work.

Geddes was one of three G-Men to be named to the First Team for the MVAC spring season.

Joining him was freshman Brandyn Bogucki and senior Jackson Sommer.

On the Grey Division’s Second Team for baseball, freshman Brock Pesicek, sophomore Aidan Hill and seniors Ian Hunt and Vinnie Grandizio were all honored.

Carter Bates, a senior, was named Honorable Mention.

In softball for the G-Men, junior Lizzy Moore and senior Kyndall Hahn were both named All-MVAC First Team for the Grey Division.

Maddy Wilson, a junior, was named All-MVAC Honorable Mention.

For the Scarlet Division, which includes Waterloo as a member school, the Vikings placed three on the First Team: Baseball sophomore Aric May and softball senior Jewel Lilley and junior Morgan Sweitzer.

Freshman Bayley English and junior Miranda Long were named All-MVAC Scarlet Division Second Team, with junior Savannah Francis earning Honorable-Mention status.

For baseball, senior Noah Hughes was named Second Team for the Vikings, while Waterloo junior Drew Flarida was named Honorable Mention for the Scarlet Division.
