Preview capsules for the 2025 high school boys golf season.
COACH: Dan Battaglia, first season.
CONFERENCE: Metro Athletic Conference.
HOME COURSE: Sunny Hill Golf Course, Brimfield.
RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: Senior Casey Cannon, junior Sara Foutty.
DEPTH: “We are excited to have our returning letterwinners back to provide some veteran leadership,” said Battaglia. “We also have Meadow Tosenberger returning after she played for half of a season last year, so she’s another upperclassman with experience. I am also excited about two newcomers: Senior Lexi Bentz and junior Kami Eader, who have already shown tremendous drive and growth in just a couple weeks of preseason.”
LOOKING FORWARD TO: “I am just looking forward to getting to meet the other coaches in the conference and get a lay of the land,” said Battaglia.
EXPECTATIONS FOR THE SEASON: “I think our goal this season is to just be competitive in the MAC and continue to show growth every time we get on the course.”
19TH HOLE: “I’m really excited about coming over to golf after the last 10 years in the volleyball program at Field,” said Battaglia. “The big thing for us is going to be program building over the next few years by getting the youth involved and growing our numbers with some more off-season activities and camps. Our team is small in 2025, but has some great leadership and dedication, and I think they are going to be great role models for selling our program to future members. The girls we have are truly dedicated and loving the experience of playing golf,” concluded Battaglia.
COACH: Bryan Harvey, 14th season, 160-19 career record.
COACHING STAFF: Casey Hogan, assistant.
CONFERENCE: Suburban League American Division.
RECORD 2024-25: 11-3 overall; third place Suburban League.
HOME COURSE: The Fairways at Twin Lakes.
RETURNING GOLFERS AND LETTERWINNERS: Adrianna Mineo, Brooke Beatty, Coco Golden.
NEW GOLFERS TO VARSITY: Kate Ennemoser, Kaila Kovelyan.
DEPTH: “We seem to always be competitive in our league and in Northeast Ohio. This is due to the hard work and commitment by the girls in the off-season,” said Harvey. “We are returning All-Suburban League players Adrianna Mineo and Coco Golden. Both have sectional- and district-tournament experience. Brooke Beatty has been playing all summer in the Northern Ohio Junior PGA Tour events and really improved.
“Kate Ennemoser and Kaila Kovalyan could emerge as full-time varsity players and should see substantial time during the season. Returning junior Aubrey Byler, as well as Makenna Ward, could see time on varsity as well. We have two hard-working freshmen in Colbie Kruger and Mia Pipoly, who, when they gain experience and continue to develop skills, will be very good players in the future.”
OUTLOOK FOR THE SEASON: “This season is a blank slate,” offered Harvey. “As the season progresses and our team gets more experience, we should be one of the better teams in our half of the Suburban League. There will be days when we shoot in the 330s, but also days, if not playing well, we could shoot in the 360s. Our hope is to be playing our best at the end of the year. Medina Highland will again be the team the rest of us will uses as a benchmark. If we are within a few strokes of them at any event, we have played very well.”
COACH: Matt Just, 4th year, 29-13 career record.
CONFERENCE: Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division.
LAST SEASON: 10-3, third of 12 teams at the Lady Spartan Invitational, 5th of 11 at Marilyn Jackson Memorial, 6th of 15 at OHSA DII Sectional at Punderson.
COURSE: Sunny Hill Golf Course, Brimfield.
RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: The Rovers return seven letterwinners, six seniors and one sophomore.
DEPTH: “We will be without three-year letterwinners Alex Biggin (injury) for this season, but we will have six returning letterwinners to count on. We have two promising freshmen that we will develop and count on in the future,” said Just.
LOOKING FORWARD TO: “We are in a new conference so all league matches will be exciting,” said Just. “The CVC is a very competitive league. We will look to improve on our finish from last year at both the Lady Spartan Invitational and the OHSAA Sectional Tournament.
EXPECTATIONS: “This is a very important year for the program,” said Just. “We will have numerous goals for the team, but two of our biggest goals are to advance to the D-II District tournament and to win the CVC Valley Division.”
19TH HOLE: “We will look to have a nine-hole team scoring average below 185. We have added a few tournaments to our schedule this season to help prepare for the postseason run. We will be playing in the following tournaments: Minerva Invitational, Lady Spartan Invitational, Hudson Explorer Invitational, Independence Blue Devil Invitational and the CVC Postseason Tournament.”
COACH: Cindy Fesemyer, 12th season.
HOME COURSE: Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course, Lake Milton.
CONFERENCE: Mahoning Valley Conference.
LAST SEASON: MVAC league champions, first place at sectional, first place at district, fifth at the OHSAA State Tournament.
RETURNING LETTERWINNERS: “We return a lot of experience and our goal is to improve on scores from last year,” said Fesemyer. “Seniors Jessi Mix and Aubree Varga have put the work in this summer and have been excellent role models for our younger players. Sammy Morgan and Jenni Mix have played a lot of golf this summer to prepare for the upcoming season. Kristen Dillon, Layna Tittel, Emily Morrison and Makenna Keefe will be fighting for spots in the starting lineup. The competition will only make us better,” said the coach.
FRESHMAN NEWCOMERS: Bailey Adamski, Makenna Keefe and Emily Morrison have all spent a lot of their summer working on their golf game.
“Emily is very competitive and has the potential to break into our starting lineup.”
TEAM EXPECTATIONS: “We are looking to continue the success we had last year,” said Fesemyer. “Taylor Blazek (graduated) will be hard to replace, but she left behind a legacy. Her dedication and work ethic has helped take us to another level. Our goal is to continue what she started and have a golf season to remember.”
19TH HOLE: Taylor Blazek will be playing golf at Gannon University this fall.
