The Northern Ohio PGA sponsored a 36-hole tournament for junior golfers as a part of the junior series tournaments at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna on Monday and Tuesday.

With only three tournaments remaining until the tour championship at Barrington Golf Club in Aurora on July 28 and 29, this was an important tournament for the youths competing this summer.

All boys and all girls compete in their own gender age division, ages 11 to 19, however, the Northern Ohio PGA breaks down younger age divisions as well.

Earning the championship for the boys was Andrew Fredenburg of Niles, firing 69-72 141 for only 1-over-par.

Portage County golfers in the top 10 included Jacob Rainieri of Mogadore (74-72—146) and Nicholas Pollak of Aurora (69-77—146), both in a tie for ninth place.

Pollak was the best among the boys age 14-15, topping Aiden Curtis of Mentor by three strokes to earn the younger boys championship.

Kayla Knaze of Fairview Park led the girls 13-19, firing a 1-over-par 141 total.

Gracyn Vidovic of Aurora made the top five of the tournament, firing rounds of 76-76 for a 152, good for 12-over-par.

Executive Director of the NOPGA, David Griffith, an alumnus of the Kent State men’s golf team, thanked Herb Page and the staff at Windmill for welcoming the junior golfers each year.

“Windmill is a great facility and our juniors enjoy the challenge each year,” said Griffith.
