High School Bowling Report: Rootstown places second at G-Men Classic

The Rootstown Rovers’ girls bowling team traveled to Sky Lanes for the annual G-Men Classic and brought home the second-place trophy.

Rootstown was led by Natalie Hammerschmidt’s 215-561 and Payton Curall’s 229-541 on the way to the runner-up spot.

The Rovers only lost to Boardman in the Baker finals.

Also contributing to the solid performance was: Elli Campbell 160, Emma Day 139-152 291, Maggie Frik 143, Cassie Egli 157-136 293, Kaitlyn Hammershmidt 163-164 327 and Olivia Davies 150.

The Rovers had continued success over the weekend, bowling at the Clutch Tournament at Clutch Lanes in Peninsula and finishing third. Curall bowled a 565 and Day a 554 on their way to the top three behind Amherst Steele and Tallmadge.

 

KENT ROOSEVELT SWEEPS BARBERTON

Kent Roosevelt swept a Suburban match against the Barberton Magic at Kent Lanes.

Brayden Darkow rolled a 388 two-game set and Braden Lataki a 299 on their way to the win.

Jillian Eden led the Rough Rider girls to the win, rolling a 206 high game and a 399 two-game series.

 

ROVERS MOVE TO 8-0

The Rootstown boys improved their record to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the league when they topped Warren JFK 2,416 to 1,636. The Rovers’ Justin iller tossed a 257 game on his way to a 474 series with Nick Moorehead adding a 207- 381 and Caleb Stevens 200-366.

The Rovers continued a successful week at the Clutch Lanes bowling tournament, earning sixth place. Two Rovers finished in the top 10: Sean Boveington (676) and Justin Miller (658).

 

ROVERS HOST SECTIONAL PREVIEW TOURNAMENT

Rootstown hosts the 18th annual Sectional High School Bowling Preview Tournament at Spins Lanes in Kent this weekend.

Division-I teams bowl on Saturday and Division-II teams on Sunday, both beginning at 9 a.m.

Teams will bowl three games and six Baker games, following the format of the OHSAA Sectional Tournaments.

Among the more than 40 girls and boys teams competing in the tournament are Portage County competitors Ravenna, Southeast, Crestwood, Kent Roosevelt and host Rootstown.

Spectators are welcome.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for student and senior citizens.
