The 38th Rango was held at Windmill Golf Club in Ravenna to benefit the Kent State University varsity golf teams.
With the success of the popular outing, Kent State hit the $1 million mark of money raised at this year’s event.
It’s a busy day and week for Windmill.
The annual tent sale is always held the same week as the Rango and Herb Page compliments his great staff.
But the Rango outing serves a specific purpose.
“It is for our student golfers and the continued success of the program,” said Herb Page, retired varsity men’s golf coach and Director of Golf/PGA Professional at Windmill Lakes Golf Club.
An alumnus and member of the golf team while attending Kent State, Page was the golf coach for Kent State men’s golf for more than 40 years and has been a member of the Professional Golfers Association since 1977.

Page always wanted to do more for the golfers that played varsity golf for the Golden Flashes.
The Rango’s, Kent State University golfers, started the outing with Page 38 years ago with the purpose of creating a solid program and helping the golfers.
“We wanted to create a quality program and do this right,” said Page. “We raised money for the right reasons, to support the golfers in college.
The success was evident with Kent State often at the national championships and high in the rankings of collegiate teams. It is still obvious with as many professional golfers competing at the highest level.
The outing this season continued that success to raise money supporting the collegiate golfers through individual support of people who play every year, an auction and numerous other ways to support the Rango.
Page, as he talks about the event, is both thankful and sometimes a little overwhelmed at the continued support of alumni, golfers, businesses and others who return year after year to help the golf teams and the students that play golf and graduate from Kent State succeed.

EDDIE CALHOUN
