Randy Wilburn competes in the Amateur and the Senior Amateur every season.

RANDY WILBURN

He always finishes in the top 10 and often higher — no matter who he is playing with or against.

This week, at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna, Wilburn had another accomplishment: A hole in one.

“Lightening has struck again,” said Wilburn as he shared his perfect shot.

Wilburn used a 7-iron on the 149-yard, eighth hole to accomplish the feat.

And he had witnesses.

He was playing with Tony Merich, Billy Bong and Eric Ernsberger and ultimately shot a 73 for the day.

And Randy provided his own memory of the day, a photo of the golf ball in the hole with the flag still in the cup.

FALL JUNIOR LEAGUE

Looking to help your son or daughter discover the joy of golf.

Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course is hosting the Fall Junior Golf League for youths ages 6 to 14 (recommended).

On-course instruction is provided by golf course professional and certified U.S. Kids Instructor Mike Jenior and includes fun drills and competitions that will hone your junior golfer’s skills and knowledge of the game.

Prizes are given out each week and golfers can play nine holes each week paired within their age division.

All juniors enjoy an end of the season banquet and prize raffle on Oct. 12.

Parents are encouraged to spectate or caddy each week and spend time with their junior golfer.

The junior golf league begins on Sept. 7 and continues every Sunday thru Oct. 12.

Registration is $150. To register or for additional information call 330 654-4100.

THE SENIOR AMATEUR

AUG. 30-31

The final tournament under the Portage County Amateurs umbrella is scheduled to compete at Windmill Lakes and Raccoon Hill Golf Clubs the final weekend in August.

Men compete in age divisions 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus.

The senior amateur is such a fun event with golfers returning year-after-year, enjoying the competitive challenge and often seeing old friends that they may not have seen for a year.

To compete, please register at PCAGolf.net, register at host golf courses or call 330-206-9083, email golffam2@gmail.com, for additional options. You may register online, in person or mail in your registrations by Thursday afternoon.

Tee times will be posted Thursday evening.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the growling list of golfers competing in the 55th Portage County Senior Amateur.
