OHIO SENIOR OPEN

The Ohio Senior Open has been a part of the golf schedule for 40 years.

Hosted by the Northern Ohio PGA, the event is 36-holes at Firestone Country Club’s Fazio Course.

The Senior Open welcomes golfers, both professional and amateur from the far corners of Ohio to the prestigious event.

This year, playing in weather conditions that went from winter to summer over the two days of the tournament, Bob Sowards of Dublin won for the sixth time in seven years, besting Howard Clendenin of Fairlawn by two strokes. Sowards finished at 8-under 132 as Clendenin posted a 134.

Mark Borlin, amateur from Stow, won the Senior Plus Division with a two-day total of 142.

Portage County area golfers struggled in the two-day tournament. Rob Schustrich, amateur of Windham, finished in 23^rd place, firing 6-over-par for 36 holes and golf professional of Aurora, Gary Trivisonno tied six golfers including John Goodson of Hudson and Gary Rusak of Painesville for 28^th place at 9-over-par.

Following the Senior Open, the 104^th Ohio Open, also hosted by the Northern Ohio PGA, takes over Firestone Country Club for the first time in the event’s history June 30 through July 2.

NORTHEAST OHIO AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna will host the 95^th Northeast Ohio Amateur Championship this Sunday.

The event is a qualifier for both the 2026 U.S. Amateur and the 2026 U.S. Senior Open with the champion in each age division at Windmill advancing to the final qualifying.

The tournament is a 54 hole individual stroke play event. There is a cut after 36 holes.

Champions will be awarded in three divisions: Championship, Mid-Amateur and Senior.

The field is limited to 144 golfers.

TANNENHAUF 36-HOLE JR. CHAMPIONSHIP

Sammy Morgan, Southeast High School golfer, earned fifth place in the girls 11-15 age group at Tannenhauf.

In the 16-to-19 age group, Brooke Beatty of Kent earned 29^th place.

For the boys, 16-to-19 age group, Jacob Rainieri of Mogadore tied for 12^th, Max Thirion of Ravenna tied for 32^nd and Deacon Smith of Kent tied for 49^th.
