For many junior golfers seeking to continue their golf at the collegiate level, earning a ranking in junior golf for their tournament play can be one of the keys to their success.

The Northern Ohio PGA helps juniors in Northeast Ohio with those efforts, holding two-day tournaments (36 holes) that are included in the rankings for junior golf.

This weekend, Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance was the host for one of those two-day tournaments, with golfers from around northern Ohio looking to succeed.

After Saturday’s first 18 holes, in the boys 11-to-19 age division, Max Thirion of Ravenna, who competes for Twinsburg, finished in the top-50 golfers, firing an 81 as he heads into his senior year.

Others finishing up their rounds in the boys division included Jacob Rainieri of Mogadore, playing for Lake Center Christin in the fall, still in the top 40 with several holds to play, Brett Epple of Streetsboro, carding an 83 in the top 60 and Deacon Smith of Kent at 13-over-par scoring a 77.

For the girls, overall in the 13-to-19 age division, Brooke Beatty of Kent is in 36th place at 31-over-par as the only Portage County golfer.

Play gets underway for the second 18 holes today as golfers have the opportunity to move up in the standings.
