If you are awake early this morning, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., it is worth turning on the Golf Channel to watch the National Drive, Chip and Putt Championship.

Watching the talented junior golfers — 40 girls and 40 boys between the ages of 7 and 15 who qualified through the 41 sections of the PGA — is both fun and inspiring.

Watch this competition and you realize that golf is alive and well in the United States with junior golfers inspired to great play.

Ohio golfers include: Kosei Imai (Powell), age 7-9 and Caz Zitzner (Springfield), age 10-11.

Information to register youth golfers in local qualifying events for the Drive, Chip and Putt is included in this column.

PAR 3 TOURNAMENT

As The Masters gets underway this week, one of the celebrated events is the Par-3 Tournament.

It is a family friendly event on a nine-hole course registering a par of 27.

You can participate in a version of the Masters Par 3 this week at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton.

The Masters Par 3 is held Thursday beginning a 5:15 p.m. and is a two-person scramble event. Olde Dutch Mill customizes their course to nine Par 3 holes.

Registration is $25 per person or $50 for the two-person scramble team.

Call 330-654-4100 to register.

MOTHER-DAUGHTER NIGHT

The Ohio Girls Golf Foundation and the NOPGA Section Foundation are partnering with the Aurora Group of Morgan Stanley for the second annual Bring Your Mom to Golf Night.

The event is May 9 beginning at 5:30 at Fox Den Golf Course. Girls ages 8 to 18 are invited to bring their mom or another female mentor to play in some friendly competitions while learning from PGA and LPGA professionals.

The event is free for all participants and includes dinner after the clinic.

Register by May 2. Go to oggf.org for registration information and additional details.
