STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The singles state championships, open to high school bowlers in 11^th and 12^th grade, concluded in Columbus. Portage County had several athletes compete in both the juniors and seniors divisions.

In the Senior Division, Justin Miller of Rootstown was the defending champion and finished second when qualifying completed. Miller rolled games of 201, 244, 244, 157 and 269 on his way to a 1,115 pin total.

Miller advanced to the stepladder finals where he rolled a 182 game, just short of advancing through the bracket and finishing sixth in the tournament.

Others competing in the senior and junior tournaments included Brody Justice of Aurora, Sean Boveington of Rootstown, Joseph Dilworth of Kent and Trenton Turney of Ravenna.

UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS

The Portage County USBC Senior Memorial Tournament will roll-off beginning at 10 a.m. on today at Spins Bowl in Kent. All bowlers must be at least 50 years of age. Registration is welcome through the day of the tournament with a late fee. Entry fee is $55 today including the late fee.

The Portage County Masters is set to compete April 12-13 at Spins Bowl and Kent Lanes, both in Kent and Sky Lanes in Garrettsville.

Based on 72 entries, first place is awarded $1,700. Entry fee is $125.
