PRO-PRO SCRAMBLE

On Monday, 39 two-person teams will tee off at Shady Hollow in Massillon for the annual Pro-Pro Scramble.

Watch for results as many locals are competing in the tournament, including:

  • Randy Dietz, formerly of Kent Roosevelt and Kent State University and now director of the Windmill Golf Center, who is competing with Alex Daniel
  • Former Kent State University standout Ned Weaver, also an instructor at Windmill Golf Center, playing with Mitch Camp
  • Former director of golf at Club Walden in Aurora and Collin McEndree, head golf professional at Club Walden and Aurora High School girls golf coach competing with Adam Lewicki, golf professional at Portage Country Club in Akron.

ONE SAD NOTE

It was shared this week that Jim Betty, retired Coventry teacher and golf coach, died.

I loved covering Jim’s team when he coached the Comets.

He absolutely loved his job.

He not only coached the high school team, he also was a coach with First Tee in Akron and spent part of his time teaching at the Edwin Shaw Challenge Course, providing instruction to individual with disabilities.

He often posted pics of the course where the student-athletes were playing noting, “This is my office today,” and would add names of people that were joining him at his office, including my own.

He was a positive force on the golf coach and the kind of coach and teacher you wanted helping your own kids.

My sympathies to his entire family and community. We lost a good one.

CHECK THE SCHEDULE

Be sure and check the schedule of tournaments and events for adults and kids. Additional tournaments are being added frequently and some of the events fill very fast as golfers support booster clubs and help many organizations in need while playing the game we all love.

If you have an event you would like added to the calendar or covered this season, be sure and email golffam2@gmail.comm or text 330-206-9083.

SHARE YOUR SUCCESS

Information for the column including tournaments, leagues and adult and junior golfers successes may be shared at golffam2@gmail.com or text 330-206-9083. We look forward to sharing the accomplishments of all golfers throughout the Spring and Summer.
