The bowling season is underway with lanes enjoy full houses and league play every night for adults and Saturday morning for juniors.

There have already been several games and series worth noting in the young season as bowlers look forward to successful league and tournament bowling.

THE LAUBERT-POTTEIGER FAMILY

This week, in the Ellerhorst Russell/Portage Tent Rental Past Time League at Sky Lanes, William Potteiger shot an honor score, his very first 300 game.

Potteiger is the son of William and Shawna Potteiger.

The perfect game accomplishment is always exciting, but Potteiger joins a prestigious amount of honor scores enjoyed by his entire family.

Potteiger joins the list of 300 games bowled by his family.

“Our family holds an oddity record nationally for USBC with the most 300 games by a family,” said Shawna Potteiger, William’s mom.

The games were bowled by Donn Laubert, Ann Laubert, siblings Shawna Potteiger, Carla Harris, Doug Laubert and Greg Laubert, William Potteiger and Carla Harris’ son, Michael Miller (299).

The award was listed as a family of parent, children/spouses and grandchildren and now needs updated to include William’s recent 300 as well as games rolled by Jessica French and Jolson French.

The easy question to answer of the Laubert-Potteiger family: What is your family sport?

THE BOWL-GOLF CONNECTION

Families that count golf as their family sport often said bowling was something they did between golf seasons.

However, bowling and golf are similar since they both can be played by all ages of kids and adults, is an individual accomplishment that can be played as part of a team competition, and can continue to be a part of the sports repertoire that adults play and compete with their grandchildren.

But it takes on a literal tone when looking at the Spins Bowl High School Match Play League.

Several of the bowlers in that league include Aubree Varga and Emily Morrison, both Southeast High School students are members of the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference league champions. While the girls prepare for the OHSAA Sectional at Punderson Golf Curse in Newbury this Thursday, they are also bowling on Saturday mornings at Spins Bowl to warmup for the upcoming high school season.

Varga rolled a high game of 132 and series 349. Morrison tossed a 451 series.

The league is popular for high-school students looking forward to the high-school season in their leagues.

High game and series for the girls this week was accomplished by Joy Justice 235-604 as the boys were led by Brayden Burnett, 229 and Colden Prater, 591.
