The Southeast Pirates began their 2022 season with a road victory at Brooklyn on Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Pirates took a 14-0 halftime advantage on a pair of rushing touchdowns by Randy Williams in the second stanza.

Austin Mejia then ran the third-quarter kickoff back for a touchdown, which was followed by a Case Myers 2-point conversion run to lift Southeast’s advantage to 22-0.

Brooklyn scored touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters, but their extra-point kicks missed and the team’s rally fell short.

“We played hard and fought to the end,” Southeast head coach Patrick Youel said. “We gained a lot of experience, but we have to continue to get better and grow every day and week.”

Michael Phillips led the Pirates’ offense with 99 yards on the ground.

Myers added 41 yards in the air, accounting for all of the team’s passing yards in the game.

As a team, Southeast ran the ball 35 times for 195 yards.

Defensively, Southeast held Brooklyn to just 44 yards rushing on 18 attempts. Brooklyn’s offense was primarily through the air, where they completed 16-of-27 passes for 193 yards.

Southeast will host Field next week at Freedom Field in Palmyra. The Falcons lost a heartbreaker, 27-26, on Friday.
