Southeast was an unwelcoming host to Brookfield at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton as the Pirates beat the Warriors in an important Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference boys golf matchup on Wednesday.
Both Southeast and Brookfield were at the top of the league in 2025 before the Pirates won the end-of-season tournament.
Now Southeast and Brookfield will go into the tournament having beaten each other at their home courses again.
Leading the charge for the Pirates was Owen Dombroski. The sophomore fired a 1-under-par on his home course to earn medalist honors.
Southeast’s Cole Bruno fired a 41, Alex Peelish a 39 and Logan Blankenship a 37 as the Pirates bested Brookfield by eight strokes, 152 to 160.
“This was a signature win for us,” said Mike Jenior, coach of the Pirates. “It showcased our depth and our focus in big matches, shooting our best score of the season.
“Brookfield has been the gold standard in the MVAC for years and they are tough to beat,” Jenior added.

Rootstown traveled to Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna and bested Akron Firestone, the home team Ravenna and Austintown Fitch in a quadrangular match.
The Rovers’ Drew Just was the best on the fairways for Rootstown, carding a 41, with Liam Miller adding a 43, Anthony Pratt a 46 and Nathan Waesch a 48.
The match bumps the Rovers to a 5-4 overall match record.
The Ravens dropped to 0-4.
The Pirates extended their undefeated record to 15-0 overall and 14-0 in the MVAC with victories over Crestview and Mineral Ridge.
Emily Morrison tied Jenni Mix for medalist honors, each carding 40s as Morrison carded an Eagle on the seventh hole, a par 4.
Samantha Morgan fired a 43 and Kristen Dillon a 48 to round out the scoring in the match that lifted the defending MVAC champions to victory.
New soccer coaches Logan Spath and Tara Langston celebrated the first victories of their coaching careers last week.
Spath, who took over the Field boys program this season, earned win No. 1 when the Falcons topped Orrville, 4-1, as part of Friday Night Futbol.
Langston is the new girls soccer coach at Rootstown and the Rovers delivered her first win on Tuesday during a 7-2 victory over Lake Center Christian.
As part of the Rovers’ triumph, senior Elliott Smallfield scored five goals.
We recorded the second episode of The Portage Sports Podcast on Tuesday morning at the WSTB studios at Streetsboro High School.
Featured on this month’s episode will be Bonsky Heating and Cooling Spotlight Athlete Koralee Jenior, who is a junior girls soccer standout at Waterloo High School.
Also included was a long conversation with Chuck Moore about the Mogadore High School football team’s 30th anniversary of the legendary 1996 triple-overtime 61-58 state championship win over St. Henry.
It is a game that many call the “greatest football game they have ever seen” — and a game that still sparks animated conversations to this day.
The episode will be posted soon.
Stay tuned!
