2008-09 Boys Basketball: Waterloo’s Tom Herchek

Waterloo High School’s Tom Herchek averaged 22.6 points per game during his 2008-09 senior season. He also connected on 41 percent of his 3-point attempts for the entire season, as well as 80 percent from the free-throw line.

From behind the arc, Herchek connected on 100-of-245, and he finished with 519 points on the season, as one of the top players in the Portage Trail Conference and Northeast Ohio that season.

His 100 made 3s was the most in Ohio by a single player during the 2008-09 season and ranks as the 23rd-most in Ohio boys basketball history. It is the third-most in Portage County history, trailing only Waterloo’s Eric Schiele’s 119 in 2005-06 and Southeast’s Seth Truman’s 108 in 1993-94.

Herchek was named First Team All-Portage Trail Conference and First Team All-Northeast Inland District.

He finished his career with 1,166 points and went on to play at Hiram College.
