Sequoia Wellness recently hosted the Pickleball Tournament for a Cause, which served as a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer research and awareness.
Smiles filled the tournament, which was won by David Voelz.
Lori Stephan was the runner-up and Kelly Tomory finished third overall.
There was pride in the results, but the event itself was positive for all involved.
“I have been playing pickle ball at Sequoia for about eight years, and I started playing back when Derek and Tom were still her and wanted to learn how to play, so I said, ‘OK’,” Eileen Kelly said. I really enjoy it, and I have made some really good friends from playing the game.”
Subi Simmons was another tournament competitor, who has found the sport to be a nice balance of exercise and friendship.
“I just started playing pickle ball a few months ago, and I love the social aspect of it,” Simmons said. “I got started because my family started playing it.”
