GIRLS GOLF

GARFIELD 213, ROOTSTOWN 218

At Sunny Hill

The Garfield G-Men won their 2022 season opener over host Rootstown, but the match did not come without some history for the Rovers.

After 25 years of only sponsoring boys golf at the school, the 2022 season is the first for Rootstown with a girls golf program.

Coached by Matt Just, the Rovers fell just short of adding to the historic moment with a victory.

Rootstown did have the low score of the day, however, with Audrey Francis carding a 43 for medalist honors on the par-34 course.

Garfield was paced by its top-three scores, with Marissa White leading the way with a 50, while Madison Woconish and Grace Scirocco each finished with 52s.

BOYS GOLF

WATERLOO 198, WINDHAM 220

At Riverview

Jackson Eichler (43) and Trevor Simons (44) shot the low rounds for Waterloo in its season opener to highlight the win. Drew Flarida also shot a 52 for the Vikings.

Windham was led by Chase Eye’s 44, while Zack Turk added a 50.
