Streetsboro wrestling captures MAC wrestling championship

The Streetsboro Rockets won the Metro Athletic Conference wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The event, which was hosted at Woodridge High School, featured five individual champions for the Rockets, along with senior Donovan Paes being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Individual titles for Streetsboro were won by Aidan Carone at 106 pounds, Anthony Perez at 126, Paes at 132, Landon Bdovetz at 175 and Sam Brunner at 190.

Additionally, Matt Klimak (120 pounds), Cohen Klimak (150) and Joey Fedor (215) all were runners-up.

Streetsboro head coach Josh Zupancic was also honored on Saturday, beig named the MAC’s Coach of the Year.

Ravenna had a pair of wrestlers reach the championship finals, with Sean Loucks losing by an 8-4 decision at 144 pounds to Cloverleaf’s Hayden Jarvis. Cory Cole lost by major decision (14-4) to Cloverleaf’s Logan Letter at 113 pounds.

Streetsboro finished with 189.5 team points, which bested runners-up Cloverleaf’s 163 points. The rest of the team scoring included Field with 99 points, Springfield with 97, Woodridge with 94, Norton with 87.5, Coventry with 63 and Ravenna finished with 51.5 points.

The Falcons had a pair of runners-up, with John Riley losing a 7-2 decision to Bodovetz at 175 pounds and Robert Atha losing a 5-2 decision to Sam Brunner at 190 pounds.
