Mogadore’s Addie Christy has been doing it all this postseason.
On the mound, the Mogadore senior has 19 strikeouts and only one walk in two complete-game victories, including a no-hitter in a 10-0 home win over Brooklyn on May 14 in a Division VI sectional game.
At the plate Christy has helped her own cause with four hits, an RBI and two runs.
The top-seeded Wildcats will oppose 10th-seeded McDonald in a district championship game at LaBrae May 23 at 3:30 p.m.
In the win over the 28th-seeded Hurricanes that was called after five innings due to the 10- run rule, Christy struck out 11 batters and walked just one.
“Addie pitched great,” head coach Jeff Fankhauser said. “She was solid, was able to locate all of her pitches and do what she needed to. It was a good game for her.”
Offensively, Christy singled three times, had an RBI and scored twice.
With two hits apiece were junior catcher Jayden Miller, senior shortstop Lily Hotchkiss, junior third baseman M.J. Shellenbarger and freshman first baseman Tali Bartholomew.
“It was a nice win,” said Fankhauser. “Everyone was hitting the ball, fielding the ball and making the plays they needed to.”
Five days later, on May 19, Christy fanned eight and walked none while yielding seven hits in Mogadore’s 7-0 home win over 21st-seeded Lake Center Christian in a district semifinal
that upped the home team’s record to 15-1.
Offensively, Christy tripled while freshman left fielder Autumn Betts doubled.
The Wildcats put the game away with a five-run sixth inning for the game’s final runs.
“It was nice because the girls had a hard time timing up the pitches at the beginning,” said the coach. “By the time we got through the lineup the second time, they were able to make their own adjustments — moving up or moving back — and putting the ball in play and making the opponent make plays. Once we finally got the ball in play, we knew we could do what we needed to, and we started getting some great contact.”
Maddie Burge paced Field on the mound and at the plate in the fourth-seeded Falcons’ 13-1 home victory May 20 over 21st-seeded Cleveland Heights Beaumont in a Division IV district semifinal called after 4½ innings due to the 10-run rule.
Field, which improved its record to 20-7, will oppose sixth-seeded West Branch in a district title game, weather permitting, on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Massillon.
Burge, a senior, started and went the distance (except for the final out) in giving up four hits while striking out five and walking two.
“Maddie did a nice job,” head coach Beth Dyer said. “She came from behind when she had to and had the hitters put the ball anywhere we wanted them to so the defense could make the plays.”
Burge helped her team score in every inning by doubling twice, singling and driving in two runs. Classmates Delilah Rahe, the right fielder, and McKayla Miller, the second baseman, provided some offense, too. Rahe had a home run, a double and a single plus three RBI, while Miller doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs.
