Field is 19-3 this season for a reason.

The Falcons are good.

Very good.

They advanced to yet another Division IV district championship game with a 10-0 win at home over Crestwood in a district semifinal May 19 that was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

On the mound, junior Adrianna Berry yielded just a single hit while fanning seven.

“Adrianna had a really strong outing, a really strong performance,” head coach Beth Dyer said.

At the plate, Field was putting the ball in play from the start.

“Crestwood made some nice plays early,” said Dyer, “but we were persistent and just kept hitting the ball and being more aggressive at the plate. They did make some errors, and we capitalized on some of their mistakes along with some good hits that we had.”

Pacing the Falcons’ 11-hit barrage was senior first baseman Lilli Sutkowy, who had three singles and an RBI.

“Lilli put the ball in play hard every single time,” said the coach. “She’s definitely a leader in our offense and got them going in this game.”

Sophomore designated player Julianna Baker doubled, singled and had an RBI, senior right fielder Sophia Roberts singled twice and knocked in two runs and freshman left fielder Ryann Huddleston had two singles and an RBI.

The victory pushed the Falcons to Thursday’s district-championship game at Massillon Washington, where they knocked off Metro Athletic Conference rival Streetsboro, 2-1, with Huddleston scoring the game-winning run in the seventh inning.

It was the program’s second consecutive district title.

Regional appearances have been part of the Falcons’ history over the last quarter of a century, but the team has failed to get over the hump and qualify for a regional final.

They are hoping that changes this postseason.

“We’ve played some good ball lately, but as I’ve told the team, the postseason is a new season,” Dyer said. “What you’ve done prior doesn’t matter. You never know what can happen in the postseason. We’re expecting a good, competitive game, and we’re looking forward to it.”
