The Field softball team’s 15-1 rout of visiting Cloverleaf on Tuesday pretty much sealed the deal when it comes to securing the Metro Athletic Conference title.
The game was called after 4.5 innings due to the 10-run rule.
The Falcons are now 8-0 in the conference, a game-and-a-half ahead of second-place Coventry, and 12-3 overall.
The Falcons have now won a league championship in six of the last seven seasons, with titles captured in 2026, 2025, 2024, 2022, 2021 and 2019, with the 2020 season canceled because of the COVID pandemic.
During the seven-season stretch, the Falcons have posted an impressive 146-36 overall record and insanely are 87-5 in league play.
To keep the striking numbers coming, the Falcons have won 50 consecutive league road games, dating back to 2021 (6-4 loss at Norton on April 6, 2021).
The Falcons have four more MAC games on the schedule this season and another game that was postponed by darkness at Norton (the game is tied 2-2 in extra innings).
As for the victory over Cloverleaf, four runs in the second inning and seven more in the third were sandwiched between two both in the first and fourth innings.
“Hitting is contagious, and we batted one through nine, had some pinch hitters come in and hit,” head coach Beth Dyer said. “We put the ball in play and made the defense make plays and we used our speed.”
Pacing Field’s 16-hit attack were senior catcher Averi Weis (double, two singles), classmate Lilli Sutkowy (two-run homer, single, two walks) and sophomore designated player Juliana Baker (two singles, multiple RBIs).
“Averi came up with the hits to drive in the runs,” said Dyer. “Lilli did a great job getting on base.”
On the mound, junior Adrianna Berry started and went four innings. Sutkowy pitched the final frame.
Said the coach, “Adrianna battled through from a little injury early in the game, was a tough competitor.”
