MVAC TOURNAMENT

The Garfield G-Men captured the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference championship on Wednesday, shooting a 365 team score at Salem Hills.

Danny Ensinger was the low round for the G-Men with an 86, while Landen Gedeon and Dillan Paul each carded 92s. Liam Mielcarek gave Garfield its fourth score with a 95 on the par-72 course).

 

GIRLS SOCCER

WATERLOO 3, GARFIELD 1

Waterloo broke free from a 1-1 halftime tie by netting a pair of second-half goals to earn a road non-league win on Wednesday in Garrettsville versus the Garfield G-Men.

Olivia Boyle scored the go-ahead goal for the Vikings, then Carletta Henry scored the insurance goal.

The two goals added to the first-half goal scored by Kaira English, which was matched by Garfield’s Laura McCoy for the tie at the break.

Grace Yarian saved four shots in goal for Waterloo.

Assists for the Vikings came from Boyle, English and Sophia Wood.

 

BOYS SOCCER

GARFIELD 3, WATERLOO 0

G-Men standout Ethan Bittence scored a pair of goals and assisted his team’s third goal to help lift Garfield to a shutout home victory in a non-league matchup with the Vikings.

Garfield is now 4-3-1 overall, while Waterloo dropped to 2-7-0 on the season.

The G-Men scored all three of their goals in the first half and outshot the Vikings 16-3 for the game.

In goal, preserving the clean sheet for Garfield, was Brody Justice.

Waterloo goalkeeper Caleb Scheifeil had 12 saves.

 

VOLLEYBALL

SALEM DEF. SOUTHEAST,

25-13, 25-20, 25-23

The Pirates kept inching closer to the Quakers, but could not earn a win and were swept by Salem on Wednesday.

Mac Foor had six kills for Southeast, while Lilly Massorck had eight assists and 11 points and Kylie Bailey had 10 digs for the Pirates.
