Senior Noah Hughes struck out 12 in his four-inning no-hitter on Opening Day for the Vikings.

The offense provided plenty of support, too, with a 16-run second inning highlighting the dominating performance.

Landon McClain delivered two hits and three RBI, while Drew Flarida was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs driven in.

Hughes and Flarida also each scored three runs.

FIELD 4, BARBERTON 3

The Falcons opened up their 2023 season in thrilling fashion, using an infield single by Drexal McAmis to plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the non-league walk-off victory over the Magic.

It was McAmis’ second hit of the game and the game-winner came with one out.

Caden Kolesar drove in the Falcons’ other two runs on a double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kolesar, a freshman, also earned the first win of his high-school career, entering in the seventh inning in relief of starter Caleb Gartner (5 innings) and McAmis.

STREETSBORO 2, MOGADORE 0

Jack Pincoe pitched a complete-game three-hitter, and struck out eight, to lead the Rockets to a home shutout victory over the visiting Mogadore Wildcats.

Pincoe only walked one and was also responsible for driving in one of the team’s runs on a single in the fourth inning.

The Rockets’ other run was unearned.

Ronnie Skye also pitched a solid game. He went six innings and also only allowed three hits, and he struck out six.

The offense and pitching were both clicking for the Vikings in their season-opening victory on Tuesday.

Miranda Long had a double, single and three RBIs and Brilynn Eddy had a single, triple and our RBIs for the Vikings.
