BOYS BASKETBALL

DIVISION II

SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

STREETSBORO 63, PAINESVILLE HARVEY 58

The Rockets were led by a 23-point effort from sophomore Jackson Gula in a game that had to withstand a 26-point fourth quarter from Harvey to secure the win.

Streetsboro was leading 48-32 going into the final eight minutes when Harvey authored a fourth-quarter rally that pulled them within striking distance, but never enough to get over the top on the Rockets.

Aiding Gula’s 23 points for the Rockets was Charles Ivory, who scored 17, while Brevyn Nobles had eight points and Jack Batten scored seven for Streetsboro.

The win advances the Rockets to a sectional final matchup with top-seeded Youngstown Ursuline on Friday in Youngstown at 7 p.m.

The Rockets are the No. 23 seed.

 

DIVISION III

SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

GARFIELD 50, CRESTWOOD 46

The G-Men won the first-round matchup between Portage County foes, holding on for a narrow victory at home in Garrettsville.

It was a tight game throughout, with only Garfield’s 14-8 second-quarter scoring advantage as the true spot that helped provide the G-Men with the edge.

Senior Jackson Sommer led Garfield in scoring with 15 points, with Presteon Gedeon right behind him with 14 points. Cade Rock also reached double-digits for the G-Men with 10 points.

Crestwood’s top scorer was Dekota Johnson, who scored a game-high 18 points. The Red Devils also received 13 points from Jimmy Peters.

Garfield advances to face Beachwood on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Beachwood, which is the No. 4 seed, while the G-Men are the No. 20 seed.

 

DIVISION III

SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

SOUTHEAST 59, CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 51

In a clos game throughout, the Pirates were able to pull away late in the fourth quarter to secure the sectional semifinal road victory.

Junior Garrett Sprutte led all scorers in the game with 27 points, which came on seven field goals and a nice night at the free-throw line with makes on 13 of his 15 attempts.

Michael Phillips also hit for double-digits for the Pirates, scoring 12 points, while Evan Riffle scored 11.

The Pirates, who are the No. 22 seed, will travel to face No. 9 seed Brookfield on Friday at 7 p.m.

 

DIVISION IV

SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

WINDHAM 82, GRAND VALLEY 75

Brothers Chase Eye and Jack Eye combined for 51 points in the Bombers’ sectional semifinal victory over Grand Valley on Tuesday at Marty Hill Court in Windham.

Senior Chase Eye scored a game-high 29 points, while sophomore Jack Eye scored 22.

The Bombers also received 12 points from Carlos Bruton, 10 points from Zack Turk and Lucas Churchill added nine points for Windham.

Windham needed them all, with Grand Valley scoring at a feverish pace in the fourth quarter with 30 points that helped narrow down a 56-45 lead for the Bombers entering the final eight minutes of action.

Grand Valley buried 14 3-pointers in the game, with Logan Zirzow hitting for six on his way to a team-high 25 points. Nate Boroski, who hit four 3s, scored 22 for Grand Valley.

Windham advances to Friday’s sectional championship at Wellsville at 7 p.m. Windham is the No. 13 seed and Wellsville is the No. 10 seed.
