VOLLEYBALL

WINDHAM DEF. WATERLOO,

25-19, 27-25, 28-30, 21-25, 15-10

In a wild and tightly contested matchup between former league rivals, the Bombers prevailed in a thrilling five-game matchup.

After jumping out to a 2-0 match lead, the Vikings battled to capture the third game in extended points at 30-28, then won the fourth game as well.

The Bombers won the tiebreaker 15-10.

Leading Windham statistically were Zanya Henderson with an amazing 47 digs, while Briah Daniel (15 blocks, 15 kills), Quinn Justham (33 assists) and Julia Jones (15 points) all played pivotal roles in the Bombers’ victory on Thursday.

Waterloo was led by Arianna Rebecchi (17 kills), Miranda Long (18 assists), Brilyn Eddy (25 assists) and Alayna Holmes (14 points).

 

CRESTWOOD DEF. GARFIELD,

25-15, 25-21, 25-22

The Red Devils swept the G-Men on Thursday, with a solid team effort that included many statistical contributors.

Crestwood (10-12) was led in service points by Audrey Fusci’s seven points, while Jazmyn  Stevens totaled six points.

Aimee Barnauskas controlled the play at the net with 13 kills, while being set up by Abby Guyette, who finished with a team-high 15 assists.

Zoe Babnik led in digs with nine, while Barnauskas also had seven digs in the matchup for the Red Devils.

 

ROOTSTOWN DEF. MINERVA,

25-22, 18-25, 29-27, 23-25, 16-14

In an ultra tight non-league matchup, it was the Rovers that prevailed in thrilling fashion.

All five games were close, with four of the five being decided by three and two points.

Lindsay Smith and Marina Nichols each had 10 service points, with Allison Strickland scoring nine and Zoe Pastva with eight for the Rovers (13-8 overall record).

Strickland added a game-high 24 assists, while Smith led the Rovers in kills with 11 and Nadia Lough had 10 kills.

Smith’s play at the net also included a stellar defensive performance with seven blocks, and Shelbie Krieger also playing big defensively with six blocks.

Minerva’s Ashlyn Bowman had a big night serving, totaling 18 service points and five aces for the Lions (8-14).

 

BOYS SOCCER

ROOTSTOWN 3, CRESTWOOD 0

The host Rovers blanked the Red Devils in an old rivalry from the Portage County League years.

Rootstown jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half when Nathan Pastor buried a penalty kick.

The Rovers extended the lead in the second half on a goal by Landon Rodstrom, which was assisted by Pastor. The advantage grew on Pastor’s second goal of the game, with this one being assisted by Jeremiah Dick.

Both teams were on the attack in the game, with Rootstown holding an 18-11 edge in shots on goal.
