Tournament time is here giving the opportunity for high-school golfers to shoot for low scores and earn recognition in their conferences.
That is exactly what Jax Turner did on Tuesday.

KENT ROOSEVELT SOPHOMORE JAX TURNER
At the Suburban League’s American Conference Tournament, held at Windmill Lakes, Turner, a sophomore at Kent Roosevelt, fired a 5-over-par 75 to earn medalist honors.
It was a one-two punch for Portage County golfers as Turner edged out Aurora’s Joel Fletcher, who fired a 76 to earn runner-up medalist.
The two golfers led their respective teams to second place (Roosevelt) and fourth place (Aurora) in the third tournament of four for the American Conference.
Golfers in the Suburban League will conclude their conference tournaments and crown conference champions and individual all-league honors at Goodpark Golf Course in Cuyahoga Falls on Sept. 25.
After finishing third in the Chagrin Valley Conference championship on Tuesday, the Rovers swept a tri-match at Riverview Golf Course, beating both Mathews and Windham.
It was a hard-fought battle against Mathews as the Rovers won by five strokes, 174-179. Windham fired a 207.
Consistency put the Rovers in the top spot as Nathan Waesch and Drew Just tied for medalist honors (43), Caleb Stevens fired a 44 and Sam Klem carded a 45, resulting in two strokes separating Rootstown’s top four.
Windham, host of the match, was led by Ethan Thornton 51, Gavin Kiser 52 and a pair of 53s carded by Bryan Smithberger and Keegan Kiser.
Both the Metro Athletic Conference and the CVC held their championship tournaments on Tuesday.
In the MAC, the Streetsboro Rockets finished in second place and the Field Falcons in fifth place, both chasing champion Cloverleaf.
The Rockets’ Arianna Jacobs carded a 94 to lead Streetsboro as Field’s best was scored by Kasey Cannon, a 105, on Pine Valley Golf Course in Wadsworth.
Punderson Golf Course in Newbury, Par 72, was the site of the season-ending event for the MAC.
The Rovers demonstrated their improvement over the season by finishing in fourth place at the CVC Tournament at Punderson Golf Course in Newbury.
Playing the Par-72 fairways, Morgan Giebel, a sophomore, led the Rovers with a 92, good for seventh place among her competitors.
Anna Drago carded a 99 to help the Rovers on the course they will place in the Division II Sectional.
