High School Golf Roundup: Southeast girls run undefeated streak to nine

The Southeast girls remain undefeated, Southeast and Field boys each pick up another victory at home and Waterloo drops a close one in the MVAC Scarlet Division.

 

SOUTHEAST GIRLS

The Pirates improved their record to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the MVAC with a victory over Mineral Ridge at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton.

Southeast finished with a total of 165 strokes as sophomore Sammy Morgan was only 1-over-par, firing a 37. Aubree Varga added a 38 followed by a trio of 45s shot by sisters Jenni and Jessi Mix and freshman Emily Morrison. All six of the Pirates bested Mineral Ridge’s best score, a 50 shot by Alaina Valley and Allison Zolka.

SOUTHEAST BOYS

The Pirates are 6-2 in the MVAC and 7-3 overall after a decisive victory over Crestview at Olde Dutch Mill. James Morgan continued his solid play, leading the team with an even-par round of 36 and earning medalist honors. Cole Bruno added a 39, Ethan Shodd a 42 and Owen Dombroski a 45 to round out the scoring for the Pirates.

FIELD BOYS

In a battle of teams from neighboring communities sharing the same home course, the Field Falcons squeaked by the Rootstown Rovers by eight strokes at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield. The Falcons (176) Joey Conroy fired a 39, with Jayden Huskins adding a 43. The Rovers’ were led by Nathan Waesch 44 and Caleb Stevens 46 as Field improved their record to 3-6 and the Rovers are now 4-5.

WATERLOO BOYS

The closest match competed on Thursday was between Western Reserve and Waterloo at Paradise Lake Golf Club in Suffield as the Blue Devils (186) won by five strokes over the Vikings (191). Aiden Romine earned medalist honors for Western Reserve. Waterloo was led by Trevor Flarida (42) and Jayden Eichler (44).
