It was a great day for Pirates golf as the varsity boys posted a 162 score at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton on Monday.

Southeast senior James Morgan (left), with teammate Cole Bruno, use their hands to signal Morgan’s nine-hole course record score of 29. Morgan set the mark on Monday, using two eagles and three birdies to get to 7-under.

Senior James Morgan broke his own record (31) set earlier this season by firing an outstanding 29 on the Par 36 golf course.

Breaking his own record by two strokes, Morgan was on fire, carding two eagles and three birdies on his way to that 29, 7-under-par score.

Teammates added solid scores to the total, including Cole Bruno 42, Logan Blankenship 45, Alex Peelish 46, Ethan Shodd 47 and Owen Dombroski 49.

Liberty had just one golfer on the roster: Alex Hauser, who fired a 60, but the team did not register a team score.

Southeast is now 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the MVAC Grey Division.

GOOD DAY FOR PORTAGE COUNTY TEAMS

It was not only a good day for the Southeast boys, but for multiple teams across Portage County.

For the boys, Rootstown evened its records to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Chagrin Valley Conference, following a 181-207 victory over Harvey.

Nathan Waesch earned medalist honors, carding a 40 at Painesville Country Club .

The Vikings of Waterloo moved to 2-7 in the MVAC Scarlet Division, besting Sebring 173 to 252 at Berlin Lake Golf Course. Trevor Flarida was the best on the links for both teams, firing a 4-over-par 309 with Mason Long adding a 42.

In a battle between two Portage County teams, both calling the Fairways at Twin Lakes in Kent home, the Kent Roosevelt girls fired a 167 over Streetsboro’s 212.

Brooke Beatty fired a 41 for Kent with Adrianna Mineo, Coco Golden and Makenna Ward adding three 42s.

Streetsboro’s Claire Campbell led the Rockets carding a 50 on the Par-35 course, with Emma Chamberlain adding 51. Streetsboro is now 5-4 overall.

The Southeast girls remained undefeated in seven starts, besting Mineral Ridge in an MVAC Gray Division match, 170 to 218.

Aubree Varga had her low round of the year for Southeast, firing a 39, with Sammy Morgan adding a 41 and Jenni Mix a 42 at Duck Creek Golf Course.

The Rootstown girls were led by Morgan Giebel and Chloe Gardner, who each fired 44s on the way to the Rovers’ 184 score that topped Berkshire (219) at Sunny Hill Golf Course in Brimfield.

The two earned match medalist honors.
