The high school golf season is over.
Portage County celebrated one team playing at the final tournament on the final day.
The Mogadore boys were one of only 12 teams in the entire state to advance to the OHSAA’s Division III state championship held at North Star Golf Course in Sunbury.
That was an awesome end to a tough season for the Wildcats, who played with goals to win tournaments, matches and advance to the state since they were not in a conference this season.
Seniors Tyler Pendergast and Jude Thiry ended their seasons in style, leading the team to Sunbury and head coach Chris Mossa was proud of the entire team’s efforts.
“The team was dedicated to the program,” said Mossa. “They are one of the hardest working, dedicated groups I’ve ever coached in my 20 years.”
The members of the Mogadore team at the state tournament included Pendergast and Thiry, along with sophomores Brock Thiry and Max Simone and junior Max Shannon.

JACOB RAINIERI
After finishing sixth in the state as an individual, Jacob Rainieri of Mogadore, a Lake Center Christian senior, was chosen to play as a member of the Northern Ohio PGA Ohio Cup team that competed against the Southern Ohio PGA.
The event was held at Canton Brookside Country Club in Canton.
The Northern Ohio PGA team won the Ryder Cup style event 17-7, successfully defending their championship from the first Ohio Cup competition in 2024.
The Rootstown Rovers boys and girls golf teams concluded their seasons with a fun event.
The boys team and the girls team played a Ryder Cup inspired match play event to celebrate the success and the camaraderie of the season.

For the final column of the high school golf season, this column will feature seniors as they finished their high school golf careers and several looking forward to play collegiate golf as well as celebrate the success of the teams in Portage County in six different conferences.
