TEAM OUTLOOK

The team has grown significantly from a year ago from four wrestlers to 13.

The growth has introduced some inexperience, but there is enthusiasm.

“We have a very young and new team this year with the majority of our lineup consisting of freshmen and sophomores,” head coach Max Weatherbee said. “I think as long as everyone shows up everyday ready to improve, we will be just fine this year.”

THE LINEUP

The Devils’ four returning letterwinners highlight the lineup, with Luci Hess, Hannah Huffman and Bella Stier all posting winning records a year ago.

Huffman was 14-3 last year before her season ended to an injury.

“Hannah is a girl who is naturally gifted at the sport. I am excited to see what she is capable of this season.”

Hess was a district qualifier and posted a 28-21 record last year and Stier was 21-19.

“Luci started last year slow, but by the end of the year, she looked like a completely different wrestler. I can see it in her that she wants more for herself this year, and she shows great leadership.

“Bella has shown a lot of improvement from last year. She is someone who only wants to improve and is always working hard.

“Adell has worked all summer improving and has already had a strong start to the season.”

Also filling out the lineup are Jaylynn Hubbard, Jocelyn Johnson, Adalynn Harter, Grace Hampton, Sidney Damon, Kendra Dove and Mady Ruehr.

WHAT MAKES THIS YEAR’S TEAM SPECIAL?

“It is the first year that we actually have a good amount of girls wrestling. They are young, but they are here everyday and ready to work.”

CAUSE FOR CONCERN

“My only concern this year would be injuries. We already have a few girls out with injuries. If we can get them back and healthy, I think we will have a very solid and talented team.”
