Crestwood brought only 10 girls to the Division III district meet May 21 and May 23 at Perry.

Eight qualified for regionals.

The Red Devils captured the 12-team title with 93.5 points.

Perry finished second with 90 points and West Geauga was third with 86.5 points.

“It ended up being a great day,” said head coach Megan Mertz. “Despite the weather and injuries, the girls not only showed up to compete but pulled off another win. Becoming district champions was huge.”

A huge reason for Crestwood’s success was junior Liv Martini, who won three individual championships — the 100 with a personal-best time of 12.45, the 200 with a time of 26.35 and the 400 with a clocking of 1:00.76.

“Liv’s wins were a little closer than usual, but she’s been dealing with a leg injury,” Mertz said. “We’re hoping, with a few lighter days and some rest, she will be ready to go this weekend.”

The Red Devils will compete at the regional meet May 28 and May 30 at Austintown Fitch.

Juniors Piper Seibold, Madie Grace Gonczy and Piper Freedline and freshman Abby Pfost joined forces to finish second in the 3,200 relay with a time of 10:31.98.

Seibold and Gonczy combined with classmates Emily Doering and Jackie Blasiole to also place second in the 1,600 relay, clocking in at 4:29.35.

Blasiole finished third in the long jump with a leap of 16-6 and fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.64.

“Jackie was a key part of this win,” said the coach. “She’s been working so hard and it shows. I’m excited to see what she does at regionals with bigger competition.”

Gonczy finished third in the 800 (2:30.57), Seibold placed fourth in the 1,600 (5:32.60) and Freedline was fourth in the 3,200 (12:45.16).

“Our distance runners have been clutch all season,” Mertz said. “They continue to PR and have helped score many points during this postseason. We’ve used the phrase ‘small but mighty’ all year long, and this group is a testament to that.”

Senior Madi Sheridan finished fourth in the discus (100-9).

SOUTHEAST

The only way Julia Wheeler could have performed any better than she did May 20 at the Division IV district meet at Pymatuning Valley was if she had set more than two personal bests.

The Southeast senior captured three individual titles and was a member of a winning relay.

Wheeler set personal bests in both the 1,600 (5:10.27, won by nearly 20 seconds) and the 800 (2:22). Her time of 10:54.11 in the 3,200 was almost a minute-and-a-half faster than the second-place finisher. Joining Wheeler on the 3,200 relay (10:27.19) were junior Jenna Canale, sophomore Grace Wheeler and freshman Vayda Stelzer.

“Julia had incredible performances in all four events,” said head coach Melinda Furr. “She has been running extremely well and is ready to compete at regionals with goals to get back to Columbus next week.”

Overall, the Pirates finished second out of 13 teams with 93.5 teams. Girard won the competition with 111.5 points and Mineral Ridge was third with 91 points.

“We did extremely well,” Furr said. “It’s been a long time since we finished that high in districts.”

Senior Sarah Craver finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.84), third in the long jump (14-2) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (personal-best 53.19).

Canale finished runner-up in the 800 with a time of 2:25.81.

Junior Leila Evans was fourth in the high jump (4-6).

Southeast will compete at the regional meet on May 27 and May 29 at Austintown Fitch.

STREETSBORO

C’Niyah Ivory had quite a time May 21 and May 23 at the Division III district meet at Austintown Fitch.

The Streetsboro sophomore captured the title in the 100 with a time of 12.39, and she finished second in both the 200 with a time of 25.87 and 400 with a clocking of 1:01.55.

“C’Niyah is running incredibly well,” head coach Robb Kidd said. “Her speed is looking incredible. Her speed out of the blocks, her turnover … everything is peaking at the right time. She’s got a very legit shot at getting out to states.”

The Rockets’ three other individual champions were senior Olivia Johnson-Wilson (100 hurdles, 15.52), junior Carman Marcini (long jump, 16-10) and sophomore Bria Robinson (pole vault, 6-6).

Overall, Streetsboro finished second out of 12 teams with 135 points. Salem won the title with 162 points. Marlington was third with 104 points.

Junior Sara Koyan finished second in the high jump (5 feet) and tied for second in the pole vault (6 feet), while junior Jenna Fall took second in the 100 hurdles (16.02) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (50.54). Classmate Emma Chamberlain was third in the discus (103-8).

Ivory and Marcini combined with sophomore Kylie Sladky and freshman Kylie Kasayka to finish third in the 800 relay (1:50.02).

Marcini, Robinson and Johnson-Wilson teamed with senior MacKenzie McIntosh to finish fourth in the 400 relay (52.22). Sladky was joined by seniors Kendall Epple and Briana

Hushion plus sophomore Cara Thomson to place fourth in the 3,200 relay (10:24.56).

Streetsboro will compete at the regional meet May 28 and May 30 at Austintown Fitch.

ROOTSTOWN

Senior Colbie Curall and sophomore Cara Crandell both used their smarts to turn in runner-up finishes for Rootstown at the Division IV district meet at Norwayne, held May 20 and May 22.

Curall had a long jump of 15-7.25, while Crandell ran the 800 in a time of 2:24.51.

“Colbie did a great job adjusting to the wet weather and keeping her speed and form for all of her jumps. By being consistent, she was able to jump great,” head coach Kyle Rodstrom said. “Cara ran a great race by going out and running the first part of it under control and hit her pace times. By staying under control, she dictated the race she wanted to run.”

Junior Brynn Bird finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:26.73.

Also placing second was the 3,200 relay team of Bird, Cara Crandell, senior Hannah Crandell and freshman Paisley Day with a clocking of 10:15.68.

Bird, Day and Cara Crandell were joined by senior Dana Little to finish third in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:15.42. Curall and Day combined with junior Mia Damicone and sophomore Cecilia Krieger to place fourth in the 400 relay, timing in at 53.05.

Overall, Rootstown finished fifth out of 12 teams with 56.5 points. Norwayne won the competition with 163 points. Canton South placed second with 81 points and Elyria Catholic was third with 73 points.

The Rovers will compete at the regional meet on May 27 and May 29 at Austintown Fitch.
