The Southeast girls golf team traveled to the Division II state tournament for the second time in three years and began their journey against 11 of the best teams across the state.

At the end of play on Sunday, Southeast was in fourth place, only 10 strokes behind Madeira and one stroke ahead of Keystone.

Junior Samantha Morgan led the team firing 40-36 for a 6-over-par 76 as junior. Jennifer Mix added a 94, sophomore Emily Morrison a 90, junior Kristen Dillon a 100 and junior Lily Hayes a 116 on the Par-70 fairways at Firestone Country Club.

Individually, Morgan is sitting in ninth place.

Working their way around the Fazio West Course, the girls from Southeast remained consistent to hold on to fourth place most of the day.

Leading the tournament is Columbus Academy with a team total of 306.

“The girls performed well today,” said Southeast girls golf coach Cindy Fesemyer. “They put themselves in a position to be able to move up in the final standings.

“With just 18 holes left in this season, we need to have no regrets and finish strong. I know they can do it,” Fesemyer added.

The Pirates begin the final day at the OHSAA State Tournament on Monday, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. alongside Keystone and Edison.
