The Rootstown Rovers girls bowling team finished an outstanding season at the state tournament, earning 11th in the state on Saturday.

Senior Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt fired games of 165-206-205 for a 576 series that earned her an Honorable Mention All-Ohio for her 11th-place finish individually.

Only 16 teams advanced to the Division II state championships.

Those 16 teams rolled three regular games and six Baker games seeking to advance to the stepladder final.

As the top-eight teams advanced, the Rovers found themselves just 147 pins of the qualifying teams.

Andy Day, coach of the Rovers who made their third consecutive state appearance this season, offered that they just had a lot of missed opportunities.

However, it was a season to remember as the team has won the program’s fifth straight conference title across three conferences, along with those three state-tournament berths.

Team members include Hammerschmidt, Nina Gill, Valeri Derteen, Olivia Davies, Anna Drago, Hailie Furry and Charlotte Simkanin.
