Fall got here quick!

Tonight’s weather is going to be more reminiscent of a late September game than it is for a late August game.

Either way, the night will capture the same opportunities for memories and moments.

Waterloo’s Keyshawne Anderson was someone who had some moments in Week 1.

The Vikings’ junior threw for a touchdown, rushed for two, caught a score and also had a 50-yard fumble return for a touchdown during the team’s loss at Akron Springfield.

It led first-year head coach Nathan Brode down a path of curiosity.

How rare of a feat was it?

Through a Google summary table, Brode plugged in the data and the returned ratio of the likelihood for such a game to occur for an individual was set at one in 50,000 games.

Quite rare indeed!

FRIDAY NIGHT FORECAST

Bring your hoodies and maybe even a blanket.

The temperature at kickoff is expected to be 60 degrees and it will drop into the 50s by the fourth quarter.

The good news is that the skies appear clear of any form of precipitation.

STATISTICAL LEADERS ARE BACK

As usual, we will be posting weekly statistical leaders throughout the course of the season.

The first list of leaders was posted on Thursday night and can be found here.

Each week, the lists will post at the end of the week.

MOSER’S G-MEN DEFENSE

It took two overtimes, and that extra time should give this stat an asterisk, but Garfield’s Week 1 loss to Edgewood was only the fourth time in head coach Mike Moser’s 13-year tenure that his defense gave up 50 or more points.

The G-Men fell in double-overtime, 51-43, to the Warriors.

Garfield’s defense responded, playing their Week 2 game on Thursday night and holding the Warren JFK Eagles to just 16 to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Ryder Cain, who rushed for 244 yards Week 1, totaled another 231 yards last night in the team’s victory.

PLAYOFFS UPDATE

Of course, it is too early for playoff rankings to be viewed with too much conviction, but we will continue to track placements throughout the season so teams and communities can see how their teams’ postseason hopes are shaping up.

A reminder that the OHSAA shifted back to a 12-team format for qualifiers in each region.

There are currently many ties inside each region because of just one week of the season completed.
