Field cruised to a 10-0 victory Sept. 30 at home over Ravenna to improve to 10-3 on the season.
“We were just more talented than them,” head coach Evan Young said. “We kept possession most of the time and finished our chances.”
Junior midfielder/forward Tyler Doubrava scored two goals.
“Tyler’s two goals were quality goals,” head coach Evan Young said. “He’s been up and down between junior varsity and varsity, but he’s been showing some consistency in his play, so he’s been on the varsity for three weeks now. I think it’s helped him a lot, especially his development and the speed of play at the varsity level. I think it’s helping his confidence as well. He’s a good player.”
Also scoring two goals was junior forward Nathan Fulks. Senior forward Mitch Adams notched a goal and dished out two assists.
Three days earlier, on Sept. 27, the Falcons fell 3-2 at home to Marlington. With his team down 2-0 at halftime, Young had a message for his players: “We can win this game.”
“I think that gave them some energy,” he said of his squad that tied the score on two goals early in the second half.
Marlington, though, scored the winning goal with just a couple minutes left in the game.
“It was a pretty competitive game,” said the coach. “I think both teams competed.”
Scoring a goal apiece were senior defender Cedric Martin and junior forward Ethan Flores-Soler. Fulks had an assist.
“Cedric is just a beast. He doesn’t stop,” said Young. “He’s a hard worker, is physical, fast, aggressive; he can distribute the ball as well. Ethan has been moving positions for a little bit now. Sometimes he’s up top, sometimes he’s on the wing, sometimes he’s in the midfield causing chaos. He’s fast. It’s hard to keep up with him. Once he has the ball at his feet, he’s quick with it.”
Junior goalkeeper Cole Porter made eight saves.
“Cole has been coming up big for us. He’s doing really well,” Young said. “Without him in net, half of our opponents’ goals might not have been goals. He’s coming out of his shell, is getting more comfortable. We’re starting to use him more. Defenders are dropping the ball back to him. Letting him get involved more helps a lot.”
