The Mogadore boys golf team had an outstanding season, including winning a Division III district tournament at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance that was the gateway for their appearance at the state tournament.
Traveling to NCR Golf Club in Kettering, the Wildcats were among the top-12 teams in the state and advanced despite not being part of a league this season.
That will change next year for Mogadore as they join the newly formed Greater Portage Athletic Conference in the fall of 2027.
The state tournament is the ultimate goal for any golf team competing in OHSAA sports.
The Wildcats earned the 11th spot in the state tournament firing a two-day total of 700.
Low 18-hole round for the Wildcats was fired by senior Noah Hopkins, an 82, that he coupled with an 86 for the two-day tournament for a 168. Hopkins finished in 41st place in the tournament.
Senior Max Shannon fired an 85-176, good for 53rd, Max Simone 88-178 in 55th, junior Brock Thiry 85-179 finished in 55th place and finally, Gavin Gardner 99-224 in 72nd place.
After winning the district championship, the trip to state was icing on the cake as the Wildcats have a bright future.
Finishing 11th in the state this season under freshman coach Matt Bogner continued the storied tradition for the program, which includes state championships in 1971, 1972 and 1973.
Jacob Rainieri, a native of Mogadore playing as an individual for Lake Center Christian, enjoyed a solid state tournament. The senior fired rounds of 77-74 for a 151 that was good for 12th in the state.
