The road to the OHSAA’s state tournament started Friday.

The Kent Roosevelt boys competed in the Division II Sectional at Ocasek Auditorium at The University of Akron.

The Rough Riders’ boys finished third overall as a team.

Unofficial qualifiers were available Friday following the conclusion of the meet, but the official qualifiers will be announced on Saturday.

Corey Spicer, coach of Kent Roosevelt swimming, was happy with the success of his team.

“I’m proud of the boys for their efforts and determination today,” said Spicer. “They came ready to swim and had a solid performance as a whole. Finishing in the top three this year after losing the firepower we had last season is a testament to their work ethic and commitment to greatness.

“I can’t wait to watch what the boys have in store next week at districts as they chase a birth to the state meet in Canton,” Spicer added.

Unofficial boys district qualifiers from Kent Roosevelt include:

  • Dominic Joseph (200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay)
  • Sam Love (200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay)
