SUBURBAN LEAGUE AMERICAN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Kent Roosevelt competed in the first Suburban League Tournament of the season in the American Conference at J.E. Goodpark Golf Course in Akron on Thursday.

The Rough Riders (340) finished in second, with Medina Highland leading the way, firing a 309.

Highland had the top-three scores of the tournament, including the medalist 18-hole round of 68 fired by Elizabeth Coleman.

Roosevelt was very consistent, with their scoring including three 84s fired by Brooke Beatty, Kate Ennemoser and Makenna Ward. Adrianna Mineo rounded out the scoring with an 88 on the Par-72 fairways of Goodpark.

YANK HEISLER INVITATIONAL

It was a tough field facing the Portage County golf teams in the Yank Heisler Invitational hosted by Ravenna High School at Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna on Thursday.

The 28-team tournament was won by Waynedale, carding a team total of 302.

But it was Mogadore (320) and Southeast (342) finishing in sixth and 11th place, respectively, followed by Rootstown (387), Waterloo (402) and host Ravenna (453).

Tournament medalist, Brian Gunter of Norton, carded an impressive 1-under-par to lead the field.

Mogadore’s best was fired by Jude Thiry (74) followed by his brother Brock Thiry (78) and Tyler Pendergast (81).

Southeast’s James Morgan was only 6-over-par (76), while teammate Cole Bruno added an 82.

Rootstown’s Nathan Waesch (94) and Waterloo’s Jayden Eichler (92) led their team’s in the tournament that honors Heisler, a three-sport athlete at Ravenna High School and two-time individual state champion in 1965 and 1966.
