The Rootstown boys beat former rival Waterloo at Paradise Lake Golf Club in Suffield by 21 strokes behind the strong play of Sam Klem (40) and Caleb Stevens (41).

Nathan Waesch added a 47 and Troy Kopac a 46 to soundly defeat the Vikes.

Rootstown evened their record to 5-5, while Waterloo drops to 3-12 overall.

JAMES MORGAN’S ASSAULT ON THE GOLF COURSE

James Morgan continued his assault on area golf courses as the Southeast Pirates defeated the Garfield G-Men 157-209.

Morgan led the team to victory, firing a 32 — another under-par round for the senior and this one four strokes shy of the par for the front nine at Olde Dutch.

The Pirates remained consistent as Cole Bruno and Alex Peelish each carded rounds of 40 and Ethan Shodd, Owen Dombroski and Logan Blankenship tied with rounds of 45.

Garfield’s best was fired by Hunter Anderson, a 41.

Southeast improved to 8-3 overall and 7-2 against fellow MVAC competitor Garfield.

The G-Men are now 4-6 both overall and in the MVAC Gray Conference.

Rootstown’s Anna Drago

ROVERS WIN INCLUDES NEW LOW SCORE

The Rootstown Rovers traveled to Loyal Oak Golf Course to take on Copley and lost by only four strokes.

But during the match, Anna Drago shot her personal best nine-hole round, carding a 3-over-par 39. Her previous best round was a 40.

Ella Derr tired her personal best with a score of 46.

Copley’s Anna Yacknow earned medalist honors, shooting a 41 on her home course.

Rootstown is now 6-2 overall and 2-4 in the CVC.

SOUTHEAST CONTINUES UNDEFEATED SEASON

The Southeast girls bested Garfield by 40 strokes at the G-Men’s home course, Sugar Bush Golf Club in Garrettsville.

Senior Jessi Mix and sophomore Sammy Morgan shared medalist honors, each carding 44 followed by sophomore Jennis Mix’s 45 and Aubree Varga and Emily Morrison’s 47s.

Garfield’s Emily Knerem was the best on her home fairways for the G-Men firing a 53.

Southeast improved to an 8-0 record in the MVAC.
