The Field Falcons were on fire as they competed in the DII Northeast Bowling Sectional at Spins Lanes on Friday.
The Falcons won the Sectional Championship with a total of 4,458 pins, besting runner-up Triway by a margin of 404 pins after three regular games and six Baker games.
Peyton Hover, a junior, led the Falcons and the entire field of individuals on 14 teams, rolling games of 256-247-238 to fire a 741 series to edge out runner-up Caleb Stevens of Rootstown totaling a 707 with a high game of 280.
The tough sectional saw both the Field Falcons and Springfield Spartans among the top four qualifying teams advancing to District and Stevens as well as the Rovers’ Tycho Smolk continue his season bowling a 707 series.
At the end of three regular games, Field was ahead of Triway by 144 pins but put the T in team for the Baker games, rolling an outstanding six game series of 1,477 that included games of 258-280-221-238 245-235.
“This is our third year with a bowling program,” said Field varsity bowling coach Scott Bower. “I could never have imagined it would take-off the way it has. These boys have
been working year round and, today, all that hard work has paid off.”
“The guys stepped up to the plate and worked together to absolutely crush,” continued Bower. They got in the zone and there was no stopping them.”
“Once they found their footing, the way they cheered each other on, worked together and won, meant everything to me as a coach. I know these boys can out perform any team when they work together, enjoy the moments the sport brings and support each other through trial and adversity.”
The Springfield Spartans, back in the Greater Portage County League in 2027, advanced as the third of four teams to the District.
The Spartans Nathan Meyer led the team with his fifth place individual finish, rolling a 681, landing the sophomore in fifth place at the tournament.
Dana Floyd, coach of the Spartans, congratulated her team.
“It was a whole team effort to advance to the next round,” said Floyd.
The Rovers qualified the two individuals but just missed advancing to the District by 22 pins. Landing in fifth place behind Lake Center Christian. Lake Center made a comeback to top the Rovers in the Baker games after Rootstown was in third place after three regular games.
The boys teams now advance to the DII District scheduled for Rebman Recreation Lanes in Lorain on Feb. 20 beginning at 10 a.m.
