This is an important week for bowlers as qualifiers to the Division II district tournaments will bowl for the opportunity to advance to the state tournament.
Portage County is well represented at the Division II district tournaments.
Three teams will bowl at Rebman Recreation in Lorain, the Rootstown boys on Friday and the Rootstown girls and Garfield girls on Saturday.
Individuals advancing to District in Division II include Alannah Raffa of Ravenna, Joey Dilworth of Field, Abby Smith of Southeast, Jacob Stefansic of Ravenna and Daniel Mcle of Garfield.
Of the individuals advancing, Smith of Southeast is the lone senior.
Also worth noting is the advancement of Field’s Dilworth as the first bowler to advance to district for the Falcons, in their first season as a varsity sport.
The top-four teams and individuals not on qualifying teams will advance to the Division II OHSAA State Bowling Championships at H.P. Lanes in Columbus on March 1 and 2.
Bowlers begin their journey through the state tournaments today as both Kent Roosevelt and Streetsboro (boys and girls teams) gather at Roseland Lanes in Oakwood. The top-four teams and four individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the Division I District at Rebman Lanes in Lorain on Feb. 25.
Sectional and District tournaments leading to the state championships for bowling are set for February.
Division 1 Sectional Tri County—Kent Roosevelt, Streetsboro (Feb. 19 – boys and girls teams @ Roseland Lanes, Oakwood).
Division 2 District—Rebman Recreation, 5300 Oberlin Ave., Lorain (Feb. 23 – boys, Feb. 24 – girls).
Division 1 District—Rebman Recreation, 5300 Oberlin Ave., Lorain (Feb. 25 – boys, Feb. 26 – girls)
