This was a shortened week for many high-school bowlers with the Thanksgiving holiday, but several teams competed in the Norton Panthers Bowling Tournament at Charger Lanes on Saturday and Sunday.

ROOTSTOWN ROVERS

First, the Rovers’ girls traveled to Norton to compete and earned a second runner-up tournament finish following their successful effort at the Ravenna Ravens annual event.

The Andy Day coached team had outstanding efforts by Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt, bowling back-to-back games in the 190s (197-192) and a high series of 484 rolled by Olivia Davies with a high game of 173.

Rootstown took over in the six Baker games, bowling high games of 202 and 210 on its way to the runner-up finish.

The Rovers’ boys finished 16th in the competitive tournament that was filled with Division-I teams.

Rolling a total 3,335 pins after three regular games and six Baker games, the Rovers high game and high series was tossed by Caleb Stevens, a 510 with a 184 high game, with Tyco Smolk bowling a 506 and Camden Morris rolling a 182 game.

KENT ROOSEVELT

The Rough Riders’ boys team also competed in the Norton Panthers tournament and earned a solid sixth place behind their highest total in two years.

Leading the way for the Riders was Eli Logsdon bowling a 575 series with a 235 high game and Braden Latocki, a 223 high game on his way to a 507 series.

Coach Al Petrosino was proud of his team’s effort.
