The Ravenna Ravens hosted a girls bowling tournament at Spins Bowl to start the bowling season with 28 teams competing.
When the final pin had dropped in the final round, the Rootstown Rovers earned second place, losing only to Mentor in the bracketed second round.
The Rovers’ Baker games against Mentor were 113 to 132 and 165 to 191.
Prior to the final, the Rovers beat the Rockets of Streetsboro in two Baker games 153 to 119 and 229 to 166.
In the qualifying round, the Rovers scored 3,179 pins, second only to Mentor’s 3,265. Streetsboro earned third in the qualifying round (3,104), with other Portage County teams competing in the tournament including Southeast (2,496), Field (2,407), Ravenna (2,310) and Kent Roosevelt (2,093).
The Rovers’ Olivia Davis earned fifth place in the tournament, tossing a 549 series.
Also finishing in the top ten was Streetsboro’s Kendall Clark (510) good for ninth place individual honors.
For the Rovers, Valeri Derteen earned her high game, a 236 and Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt rolled a 215.
On their way to second place in the final round, the team bowled that solid Baker score of 215 on their way to beating Streetsboro.
