It was an up and down week for several Portage County bowling teams as several teams found success in matches and others notched both wins and losses to their overall season.

SOUTHEAST GIRLS

The Southeast girls beat both Champion and Lowellville in league competition, dropping only an out-of-league match to former Portage Trail Conference rival Lake Center Christian.

The Pirates bested Champion by 413 pins led by Emily Morrison and Lizzie Mix both rolling 308 series as Morrison rolled the high game of 163 and Mix tossed 173.

The match against Lowellville saw Southeast leave no doubt that they were the best team, earning the victory by 313 pins. Mix (146-287) and Morrison (171-286) were again the team leaders.

Lake Center Christian only topped the Pirates by 151 pins, despite Morrison rolling a 200 game on her way to a 336 series.

Southeast continues competition in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference this week, as well as competing in the Rover Sectional Preview Tournament on Sunday for Division-II teams.

KENT ROOSEVELT

The Rough Rider boys have literally been on a roll as they beat Solon this week 2,403 to 2,217 at Roseland Lanes in Solon.

Caden Pratere (208), Braden Latacki (205) and Eli Logsdon (214) were consistent in the victory, with Tayden Bailey (192) and Joey Impiccini (172) also accomplishing solid games.

The team came together in the Baker games to finish with a 237 and a 199 game for a 560 series to improve their record to 5-2 for the season.

ROOTSTOWN ROVERS

Both the Rovers’ girls and the boys earned victories this week over Berkshire.

The boys held on for a 267 victory as Caleb Stevens rolled a 205 game on his way to a 375 high series for the boys. Adding Baker games of 216 and 195 that led to a 569 series kept the Rovers ahead of the Badgers.

The girls earned a decisive victory, 2,129 to 1,114 over Berkshire.

Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt continued her solid season, bowling a 202 on her way to a 392 series and Olivia Davies added a 182-334 on the way to the victory for the Rovers.

OHSAA SECTIONALS

The OHSAA tournaments leading to the state dance in Columbus begin for Division-II teams Feb. 5 and for Division-I teams Feb. 13 at area lanes.
