For only the fourth tie in Portage County Amateur history, the tournament was reduced from a 36-hole tournament to an 18-hole tournament thanks to the torrential rains that fell in Northeast Ohio on Saturday.

Golfers arrived on Sunday at Raccoon Hill for the final 18 holes that would determine the champion of the 95th Portage County Amateur.

For golfers residing in Portage County, the champions featured familiar faces to those who follow golf.

Champion was Lucas Harrington, a former standout for the Aurora Greenmen.

Harrington fired a 1-under-par 70 that was the only under-par round of the tournament.

Dove Fall of Windham, always near the top of the standings in the Portage County Amateur, shot a 1-over-par 72 and is now ready to play in the Senior Amateur after competing head to head with the younger golfers in Sunday’s Amateur.

The top three was rounded out with a 2-over-par 73 accomplished by James Morgan, a senior on the Southeast Pirates’ varsity golf team this fall.

Morgan just earned the championship in the Matt Mishler Junior Portage County Amateur’s 16 tp 19 age division earlier this week and added the solid third-place finish to his growing repertoire of outstanding tournaments this summer.

WOMEN’S DIVISION

The top three in the Women’s Division were Jalyn Bruns, Hannah Higgins and champion Christina Nagy.

Christina Nagy of Macedonia earned the championship in her first-ever Portage County Amateur tournament.

Nagy’s 76 bested Hannah Higgins of North Canton, a swim coach at Congress Lake Country Club, by two strokes on the 6,000-yard fairways of Raccoon Hill.

Nagy, who will be a junior on Saginaw Valley State Women’s roster this coming season also topped Jayln Bruns (86) of Fort Recovery. Bruns is on the roster of Indiana East University.

Zach Huscusson of Canton carded a 1-over-par 72 to lead the Open Division, including all golfers residing outside of Portage County.

Huscusson, who plays golf for Marietta College, was chased by Andrew Hinton of Aurora, firing a 73.

Hinton also a former standout member of the Aurora varsity golf team bested Mike Furey (74) of Lakewood by one stroke. Furey is a former member of the John Carroll men’s golf team.
