The Garfield G-Men used a huge fourth quarter to pull away from the visiting Cardinal Huskies to score a 40-12 opening-night victory.

Leading just 19-12 entering the final quarter, the G-Men scored 21 straight points in the final 12 minutes to turn a close game into a sizable triumph.

The four fourth-quarter scores came within four minutes of each other and got started by a safety by Keegan Sell at the 9:16 mark.

Just 15 seconds later, quarterback Eric Geddes connected with Leo Grandizio for a 39-yard scoring play.

At 7:48, Vinnie Grandizio scampered into the end zone from 8 yards out, which was followed by a 5-yard run by Jesse Grace at the 5:10 mark.

In a blink of an eye, the Huskies had found themselves with a deficit to steep to overcome.

For the game, the G-Men outgunned Cardinal 416-107, with 312 of those yards coming on the ground for Garfield.

The leading rusher was Sell, who ran for 101 yards on just 10 carries. There were plenty of high yards-per-carry averages, though, with Grace adding 77 yards on 10 carries. Additionally, Geddes had eight carries and 56 yards, while Deacon Sommer had 39 yards on three carries and Carter Bates had 24 yards on four attempts.

Leo Grandizio added 56 yards receiving.
